THE DAFT PUNK SHOWCASE
In light of the heartbreaking news that two of the most legendary artist’s of our time DAFT PUNK have recently decided to retire, I wanted to showcase 3 films that I feel would be a great way to look back on their career in a cinematic environment.
Starting off with Daft Punk: Unchained - a fascinating and very well put together documentary about the story of who these two artists, who they are as people, how music and fame affected their lives and how they took back control of their career. Highly Recommended viewing.
Following this introduction will be INTERSTELLA 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. SO. This is a freaking amazing release. It’s an animated manga film (similar in art style to Voltron!) set to their Discovery album. If you are a Daft Punk fan - then you probably remember the first three or four video clips for the singles on TV (One More Time, Aerodynamic, Digital Love and Harder Better Faster Stronger) well they actually all tell a story and in this film they are linked together in their original format, along with other footage, as an anime telling the story of 5 musicians on a space odyssey trying to escape from evil men. If you like Daft Punk and anime then this is one not to be missed.
And finally to wrap up the evening, the amazing arthouse release… Daft Punk’s ELECTROMA . The tag line for this film: “Follows the history of two robots, the members of Daft Punk, on their quest to become human.” If you know about this film you’ll know why it’s being screened. It is arthouse, it is atmospheric, it is incredible. If that’s your kind of thing then stick around for this brooding bit of cinema, to finish off a nod in cinematic form to the incredibly artistic and talented duo that are Daft Punk.
Cheers, Graziano.
